Relocated to Maximilianstrasse 30 in late 2024 after 120 years, Hemmerle’s new Munich flagship stands on Bavaria’s most elegant shopping boulevard. As a fourth-generation family jewellery house, this space combines retail gallery and on-site atelier with 15 full-time goldsmiths creating one-of-a-kind pieces. Co-designed by Sylveli Hemmerle and renowned museum architect Tom Postma, the boutique adopts strict museum exhibition philosophy, equipped with bespoke Museum-Style Solo Jewelry Podiums for individual art pieces. A full set of Low-Reflection Matte Display Stands creates dramatic visual contrast between gemstones and unconventional metals. Specialized Mixed-Metal Art Jewelry Cases showcase works made of iron, copper and aluminium, while the overall Sparse Gallery Showcase System uses generous blank space. Custom Atelier Integrated Display Units connect exhibition zones and working workshops. Every fixture applies precise professional lighting, presenting around 200 annual handcrafted jewels as museum collectibles and highlighting over 500 hours of meticulous handmade craftsmanship.
Museum-Style Solo Jewelry Podiums & Individual Presentation
The core exhibition area is dominated by tailor-made Museum-Style Solo Jewelry Podiums, designed strictly following international art museum display standards. Each standalone podium holds only one unique jewellery piece, fully implementing the concept of “single artwork narration”. The compact, stable structure keeps a moderate height for optimal viewing perspective. Selected solid materials with plain outlines avoid redundant decoration, so all focus falls on the handcrafted creation. Arranged with ample spacing, these podiums form a sparse gallery layout. Precision directional spotlights are installed above each unit, casting soft concentrated light to accentuate jewellery contours. This individual display mode respects the value of each limited piece and distinguishes the boutique completely from ordinary dense retail stores.
Low-Reflection Matte Display Stands & Contrast Design
All base fixtures adopt Low-Reflection Matte Display Stands as the unified background system. The matte non-glare surface eliminates light reflection thoroughly, solving visual interference caused by strong reflections of diamonds and precious stones. The muted neutral tone forms a powerful dramatic contrast with high-luster diamonds and special metals like iron, copper and aluminium. The smooth tactile texture and restrained colour tone set off the rich layers of mixed materials on art jewellery. Combined with professional graded lighting, the matte background maximizes the texture differences between diverse materials. This detailed material design is the key to presenting Hemmerle’s avant-garde material aesthetics.
Mixed-Metal Art Jewelry Cases & Special Material Exhibition
Custom Mixed-Metal Art Jewelry Cases are developed exclusively for the brand’s signature works adopting unconventional metal combinations. The cabinet structure is optimized for pieces with special textures and irregular shapes. Inner compartments are flexibly divided to adapt to varied handmade forms. Anti-dust sealed design protects artworks in long-term exhibition, while internal layered lighting distinguishes the luster of different metals. The exterior continues the boutique’s minimalist museum style, unifying with other podiums and stands. These dedicated cases become professional exhibition carriers for Hemmerle’s pioneering mixed-metal jewellery art.
Sparse Gallery Showcase System & Blank Space Logic
The whole store runs on a complete Sparse Gallery Showcase System, which abandons the profit-oriented dense layout of traditional jewellery stores. With only roughly 200 annual works on display, large areas of blank space are reserved between every group of fixtures. The reasonable layout controls viewing rhythm and creates a quiet, solemn museum atmosphere. Uniform fixture specifications and consistent lighting standards maintain visual integrity across the gallery. Sparse arrangement not only elevates the artistic grade, but also lets visitors appreciate each masterpiece slowly, just like wandering in a high-end art museum.
Atelier Integrated Display Units & Workshop Connection
Unique Atelier Integrated Display Units seamlessly connect exhibition zones and on-site goldsmith workshops. These transitional display fixtures adopt consistent museum-style design, naturally linking viewing area and working space. Part of the units are placed near glass partitions, allowing visitors to admire finished jewellery while watching craftsmen create new works. Soft transition lighting ensures the light environment of showcase and workshop is coordinated. This integrated structure breaks the boundary between display and production, highlighting the brand’s genes as a family jewellery atelier and interpreting the inheritance of handmade craftsmanship.
Whole-Store Museum Visual Logic & Craft Fusion
From solo podiums and matte stands to mixed-metal cases and atelier-connected units, all fixtures follow unified museum exhibition logic. Material selection, structural design and lighting configuration all align with top art gallery standards. The integration of exhibition gallery and on-site workshop forms a unique spatial narrative. The 2024 relocation and redesign by Tom Postma and the Hemmerle family further polish the display system. This space turns jewellery shopping into a pure art appreciation journey, making it a model of museum-style luxury jewellery atelier boutique worldwide.
